“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it.”
(1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV)
“Submit yourselves, therefore, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
(James 4:7 ESV)
According to google, temptation is “the desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise.” Another definition is “a thing or course of action that attracts or tempts someone.”
I succumbed to temptation yesterday. I ordered some things from Temu. It’s not that I actually needed the things I ordered. Well, 1 item was, but it was stuff I wanted for crafting. Temptation can be a bad thing. For example, I am dieting. I have hit a plateau. I went to the Dollar General store down the road from me. The candy section called for me. Of course, I picked up some chocolate. Bridge mix, to be exact. It’s a weakness I have. I love bridge mix. Not conducive to successful dieting.
One way to avoid temptation is to stay away from it. Another way, the best way, is to ask God for help. Just ask Him to help you not buy things you don’t need or do things you know are wrong. When I go grocery shopping for my monthly supply, I ask God to keep my prices low and not to buy things I don’t need. And I come home with things I needed, no or maybe just a couple of impulse buys.
It really is that simple. But you also have to have willpower to stay away from things you don’t need. God will help you with willpower to avoid temptations. But the times I give in to temptations are the times I am worried about something. It doesn’t matter what. It just matters how I respond to it.
So the next time temptation knocks on your door, tell it not today. God is taking care of it.
Have a great day.
