Counting My Blessings

by | Mar 10, 2022 | Blessings, Gratitude

“Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me.”

(Psalm 103:2 NLT)

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:18, KJV

There is song called “Count Your Blessings”, written by Johnson Oatman (1897):

“When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings,
name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.”

Count Your Blessings by Johnson Oatman (1897)

Sometimes we just need to stop worrying about things and count the blessings God has poured out on us.

I was thinking about the blessings God has sent to me over the years. He has blessed me in so many ways. But how many times do we suddenly forget all he has done for us when trouble comes our way. That’s when when we need to stop and count the past blessings. How many times have you had a bill that you didn’t know how your were going to pay? Then suddenly money came in and you were able to get that bill paid. Or your car needs tires, a new part or whatever. Money comes in, you get the things you need.

And it’s not just money. God will send food, clothes or whatever you have need of. And it always comes at the moment you need it. God knows what we need. He knows when we need it and will send it.

But did you know doubt and unbelief can block blessings? So get rid of doubt and unbelief. Then:

“Count your blessings,
name them one by one;
Count your blessings,
see what God hath done;
Count your blessings,
name them one by one;
Count your many blessings,
see what God hath done.”

Count Your Blessings by Johnson Oatman (1897)

Have a great day everyone. God bless you.
