“But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8 ESV)
“Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use?” (Romans 9:21 ESV)
I was listening to a Christian comedian last night. He made the statement broken vessels spill a lot of water. That’s true. Usually broken vessels are thrown away because they leak. God uses broken vessels because we leak. We leak His word, we leak His kindness and love.
But then he said the pot doesn’t tell the potter what it’s worth. The potter tells the pot what it’s worth.
I think that’s a pretty good deal. There are some days when I wouldn’t give much for me. My self worth can be at a very low level at times. But thank God that He is the one who sets our worth. He always sets a high value on his children. We are worth so much more than we deserve to Him. He loves us unconditionally everyday.
There are times when I have a bad day and mess up. I’m human and not infallible. But all I have to say is, “God I’m sorry. Please forgive me.” And it’s done. He will never bring it up again.
But the devil will. He wants us to fail. He wants us so broken we will not run back to our Father.
But my friends, that is exactly when we need to run as fast as our legs will carry us, back to the safety of our heavenly Father. Let God mold you and shape you into a usable vessel. Let him work on you until you are able to carry the message to others and leak it all over them. Be a broken vessel for God. Let him use you as he wants to.
