“The
path of the righteous is level; O upright One, you make the way of the righteous
smooth.”
(Isaiah
26:7
NIV)
What a delight it is when I am walking the dogs in the winter, to get to
the bush trail and find that the groomer has been through making ready for the
cross-country skiers. The soft deep snow, so difficult to walk in, has been
flatten down into a wide and easily maneuverable pathway by a large sled he
pulls behind his snowmobile.
As I was dwelling on how fortunate I was to
find the path so nicely groomed just the other day, it also occurred to me that
when we walk with God, and not run ahead of Him this is how He makes our pathway
of life. God loves us and desires that our journey through life be one that
uplifts and blesses us and not one of constantly struggling with anxiety, worry,
stress and wrong decisions that harm and drag us down. And when we take the time
to seek His wisdom through the word, His answers through prayer, and His
guidance through wise and mature Christian counsel and then wait for His timing
we also discover that the path before us is as level and smooth as possible.
Things fall into place as they should or we are strengthened to endure a
difficult situation or given the grace to forgive and move on. Whatever the
case, when we seek Him and allow Him to go before us life is so much better just
the way God wants it to be for each and every one of us.
So today as we
walk the pathway before us, may we remember to not run ahead of God but to
joyfully choose to walk with the Master groomer of all the trails of life who
makes our pathway level and smooth.
Prayer: Father God it is so easy
for us human beings to run ahead of You as we are always seeking to be doing
something instead of being with Someone, You. Remind us to take the time to walk
with You instead of running ahead in our own wisdom and strength that our
pathways made be made level and smooth. In Christ’s name we ask. Amen.
