“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” Psalm 91:10-12
I remember a picture that made a lasting impression on me when I was a child – a picture of a little girl walking near the edge of a deep canyon and the guarding angel walking between the child and certain death.
Sometimes I wonder how often my angel keeps me from danger through out my day as I go about my activities. When my car overheats and keeps me from going wherever I had planned – is that my angel keeping me from harm? When the weather prevents me from going out – Is that a God thing? I wonder – is it just an annoyance or is God protecting me from harm?
Recently, I had definite proof that God sends his angels to keep his children from harm. There is a crawl space under my little townhouse, which is accessible through a heavy steel door, which also serves as the floor for my entryway closet. This space is about 5’ high and is large and roomy enough to use as an extra sleeping space so when I had company over Christmas the door was left open so those sleeping downstairs could come and go. Well, my company left but the door didn’t get closed. It is too heavy for me to manage and besides it was behind a closed closet door so not to worry — until one day when I was tidying up my house and wanted to put something on the shelf in that closet. I have to use a walker to motivate so I parked my walker and my foot just inside the closet and reached to the shelf. I wasn’t quite close enough so I pulled back to reposition myself closer to the shelf. In the process I thought I heard something drop so I looked to see what it was and that was when I noticed this gaping hole only an inch from my foot and walker legs. Another shuffle and I would have been down that hole – no doubt ending life, as I now know it. Whew! I KNOW my guarding angel was there on that inch between me and sudden destruction. Praise God! Each day I ask God to send his angels to protect me and I know that he does that each day but THAT time? – I KNOW I was definitely saved from harm.
