GLIMPSES OF GOD, PART 27: For the Children

by | Oct 18, 2014 | Glimpses of God (A Mini-Series)

Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s children shall bow down before thee. And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory. I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God. And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, This shall be an holy anointing oil unto me throughout your generations.

Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the Lord your God. Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the Lord thy God.

The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

But that it may be a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the Lord before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the Lord. And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning, and in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem; They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth. Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men. He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children.

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. The children of thy servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen.

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord. The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children. The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel. If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children.

He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the Lord. Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he. And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall beat off from the channel of the river unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.

But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children. For he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie: so he was their Saviour.

Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the Lord out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the Lord, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.

But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? And I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me. And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come again to their own border.

Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the Lord of hosts, is his name, and I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.

In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the Lord their God.

And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord God; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.

Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions: and when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these? And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land: and they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt.

And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places. Thus saith the Lord God; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel.

And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel.

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

~ * ~ The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord … And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.

Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.

Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God. Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.

Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. They shall walk after the Lord: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.

Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? Saith the Lord.

Thus saith the Lord; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch. And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord God.

And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yea, their children shall see it, and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the Lord. And I will sow them among the people: and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and turn again. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the . If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

~ * ~

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one.

He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? Of their own children, or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the that were scattered abroad.

While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: he is Lord of all.

Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the : And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the of corruption into the glorious liberty of the .

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth).

And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God. Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved: for the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy.

But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished: Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. For ye are all the by faith in Christ Jesus. Even so we, when we were children, were in under the elements of the world: So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and , he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him.

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. In this the are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.

You are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; and are the fathers, of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
