FAITH, Part 4: Evidence that Faith Works

by | Oct 18, 2014 | Faith, Faith (A Mini-Series), Promises

In last week’s lesson on faith, looking at the second half of Hebrews 11:2, we discovered that if you desire to be able to believe in Jesus’ saving power, just as the Biblical patriarchs did, then spend some time getting to know Him. Experience Him in your life. Develop a personal relationship with Him! Once you see how trustworthy He is in the everyday areas of your life, you will no longer have any doubts about your salvation. But just how can we be sure that this faith stuff works? I’m mean, it’s hard to believe in what you do not see, even if others around you are doing it! Let’s take a look at vs. 3 to find the secret to believing in faith:

“By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.” (Hebrews 11:3 HCSB)

Wait a minute. This isn’t any help at all! How can thinking about creation help us to believe in all of this faith stuff? Especially in our day and age when even many Christians no longer believe the book of Genesis???

Have you ever really examined the theory of evolution? Now, I’m not an expert in this theory by any means, but I know that it has a few “unexplained”s. For example, they are still looking for the “missing link”, the creature that is the evolutionary step between humans and primates. Another “unexplained” is why are we not continuing to evolve. And why is there more than one theory of how everything began? I could go on, but the point is this: Doesn’t it takes an element of faith-belief in unexplained phenomena-to believe in the theory of evolution?

Let’s take this a bit farther. It takes an element of faith to believe in quite a few things we rely on daily. For example, most of us spend very little time of our day doubting that the light will come on when we flip tie switch. We just flip it, and it does. And what about air? You can’t see it, yet you rely on it daily. Every time you get into an airplane, you have faith that the air will be able to hold it up. Every time you stand, you have faith that your legs will hold you up. You can’t see your heart, yet you know it’s there . . . Well, you get the picture. Lots of things in life require faith! And if so many things in life require an element of faith, should it be any wonder that creation require the same?

Now let’s take a closer look at this verse: “By faith we understand that the universe was created by THE WORD OF GOD, so that WHAT IS SEEN has been made from things that are NOT VISIBLE.”

Friends, God’s Word is so powerful that by it the universe came into being! By the Word spoken by God, all of nature that we see around us, all of science, all of physics an chemistry were made of things that were NOT VISIBLE! There was NO VISIBLE evidence that these things would come to be, but when God spoke, there they were.

If God could make tangible things out of invisible things in order to create the world, should there be any doubt that he can turn your negative circumstances into something positive? When God said, “Let there be light”, there WAS light and it was very good! Isn’t the same God powerful enough that when He says, “Let there be health in that cancer ridden body!”-there IS health? And when God said: “Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit with seed in it, according to their kinds . . .” (Gen 1:11), then: “The earth brought forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it, according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.” (Gen 1:12). Isn’t this same God big enough that when He says, “This child has accepted MY gift of Salvation! It is VERY Good! She is SAVED!” It WILL happen? (“Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!” Joel 2:32)

Friends, the more we ponder the wonders of creation, how the universe came to be tangible out of things that were invisible, simply because God spoke, the easier it will be for us to believe in God’s promises, despite the negative circumstances! When we speak God’s creation power into our dead circumstances, we can believe that the same power that created dry land and birds and trees out of nothing is big enough to reunite our families, heal our bodies, provide for our finances, even save our souls!

Enough to ponder, friends. But do ponder this: Creation itself, the coming into being of tangible things from invisible things by the Word of God, is the evidence we need that God will do what He has promises, that God is powerful enough to change your circumstances. We have the evidence that faith works in front of us every time we look outside, every time we ponder our children and our pets, every time we breathe. Let’s put aside our doubt! Instead, let’s put our faith in the God who can create wonderful things out of nothing, simply by speaking!

God bless you!
