Bring Them Up Right

by | Dec 17, 2025 | Discipline, Faith at Home, Family, Parenting

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

(Proverbs 22:6 ESV)

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(Ephesians 6:4 ESV)

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

(Proverbs 29:15 ESV)

Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.

(Proverbs 13:24 ESV)

I got to go to the school yesterday afternoon and watch two of my great grandkids’ Christmas program. I had an enjoyable two hours.

I was watching the kids in the audience. Most were young, not yet school age. They were all well behaved. I was impressed.

The site I use for scripture showed 100 verses about raising children. I guess it’s pretty important. Do you think Jesus would take time to listen to a child? I know He did. I found 61 verses about it.

“Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them and went away.” (Matthew 19:13-15 ESV)

I don’t know how everyone feels about kids but I say bring them on. I love kids. I hope part of my job in heaven is taking care of the little ones. I have a heart for kids. I guess that’s one reason I like to babysit. I want to encourage all the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, get those kids in church. Teach them about Jesus. Talk to them about eternity. Let them know of our living savior. Teach them early. Let them grow up in the love of Jesus.

Have a great day, everyone.
