A Sampling of Similitudes

Ant: “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer.” (Proverbs 30:25) “Go to the ant; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.” (Proverbs 6:6-8)

Ass: “The ass knoweth his master’s crib.” (Isaiah 1:3)

Candle: “The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord.” (Proverbs 20:27)

Chariot: “The chariots of God are thousands of angels.” (Psalm 68:17)

Child of the Devil: “Child of the devil: enemy of all righteousness.” (Acts 13:10); “In this they are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.” (1 John 3:10)

Colt: “the foal of an ass.” (Matthew 21:5)

Companion of a Destroyer: “Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.” (Proverbs 28:24)

Fine Linen: “Fine linen is the righteousness of saints.” (Revelation 19:8)

Flowing Brook: “The wellspring of wisdom is as a flowing brook.” (Proverbs 18:4)

Fountain of Life: “The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” (Proverbs 13:14); “The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.” (Proverbs 14:27)

God: “He called them gods, unto whom the word of God came.” (John 10:35)

Head: “The ancient and honourable.” (Isaiah 9:15)

Idolatry: “Stubbornness is as idolatry.” (1 Samuel 15:23)

Reprobate Mind: “Reprobate mind: minds of those who do things which are not convenient.” (Romans 1:28)

Reprobate: “They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.” (Titus 1:16); “These resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” (2 Timothy 3:8)
