“Why do you not understand what I am saying? Is it because you cannot hear my word?” (John 8:43 NKJV)
“Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.” (Hebrew 5:11 NKJV)
I was listening to the sermon yesterday when God started talking to me about dullness. I am a former EMT so I know what a defibrillator does. For those who may not know, it sends an electrical shock through your heart to start it again. Sometimes it is used to correct an incorrect heart rhythm. Some people have them implanted in their chest to keep their hearts beating.
That is what God showed me. He wants to implant a spiritual defibrillator in us. That way when we become dull he can give us a little jolt to bring us back on track. We become busy with our daily lives and can become dull. We don’t hear God as clearly as we should.
According to google, “The word dull carries the idea of being lazy, slothful or hard of hearing. So at one time they were eager and hungry to hear, but over time they became dull of hearing and could no longer grasp deep truths.” I think a lot of us have fallen into that at one time or another. We get lazy in our prayers or Bible reading and say I will get to it later. I know I have. I no longer work. I have all day to read my Bible and pray. But I have a routine each morning. I greet God first thing. That’s important to me to tell God good morning first thing. Then I send these out before I get out of bed. Then I pray. After I get up, get dressed, ect. I pick up my Bible and spend quality time reading it. I have my standards I read every morning but switch it up at night. Yes, I read my Bible before going to bed too. Then before going to sleep I pray again. I make sure to tell God good night and thank him for another day.
I say we all work on it and get better at hearing God. You with me?
