Attitude of Gratitude

by | Oct 22, 2023 | Attitude, Discernment, Gratitude, Tongue

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV)

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

(Psalm 118:24 ESV)

Google defines gratitude as “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.”

Gratitude for what God has done is important. But the attitude in which you give the gratitude is important. Are you genuine when you show gratitude? Or is it, “yeah whatever. Thanks.”

In my opinion, and my opinion only, when someone does something for you, no matter how big or small, be genuine in showing your thanks.

My mom taught us kids to show genuine gratitude to people. But not to expect it back when we do something for someone. She said that was just being vane and fishing for compliments. I get it. It’s respect for the other person. To show them how much you appreciate them.

I have worked a variety of jobs in my life. The hardest wasn’t the one that was hard to do. It was the ones that involved the general public. You see. I’m basically a shy person. Once I get to know you, that’s different. But once you throw in the general public, like a convenience store, then I tend to clam up and only talk when I have to.

It’s easier for me now that I’m older and I have Jesus on my side. There have been times I wanted to mouth off at someone’s attitude but couldn’t. It seemed like there was a hand over my mouth preventing me from speaking. Which, looking back, was a good thing. I might have bitten off more than I could chew. Jesus has a way of keeping me quiet when I need to be and giving me courage when I need it. So I have learned to just listen to His prompting and keep quiet when I need to.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. God bless you all.
