…. According to Clarks commentary he says: “the fetus receives its nourishment all the time it is in the womb of the mother. It receives nothing by the mouth, nor by any other means: by this alone all nourishment is received, and the circulation of the blood kept up. When, therefore, the wise man says, that “trusting in the Lord with the whole heart, and acknowledging him in all a man’s ways, etc., shall be health to the navel, and marrow to the bones;” he in effect says, that this is as essential to the life of God in the soul of man, and to the continual growth in grace, as the umbilical cord is to the life and growth of the fetus in the womb. Without the latter, no human being could ever exist or be born; without the former, no true religion can ever be found. Trust or faith in God is as necessary to derive grace from him to nourish the soul, and cause it to grow up unto eternal life, as the navel string or umbilical cord is to the human being in the first stage of its existence.”
Are you vitally connected?
I was thinking this last two days on how vital it is to stay connected to Jesus. How if that connection is broken, the person/soul will die. I know all too well that kind of connection. For it is only by staying connected to Him that I have lived 6 years PAST the time doctors allotted me. However I know that Gods will for me was to live and not die! Therefore my very breath relies upon Him. As long as I continue to bear good fruit, He will keep me connected to Him.
I want you to picture a story with me. I will provide the words, and you use your spirit and mind to see what I see. I know at times this can be hard for many, for I have a VERY VIVID Imagination! Just bear with me OK?
A baby is conceived in the womb. They start out so very small, and during the many months or weeks they become what God created them to be. This is true for all of Gods living creatures, including us. What I want to do is concentrate on the human aspect of this “Parable.”
Picture the womb. It is a dark place full of a watery substance. The child is connected to the mother by the umbilical cord. During the time of growth for nine months, that child receives all they need to live. All the food, nutrients blood, oxygen, etc. are provided for them by this cord. This makes the cord VERY necessary, for were it to be cut too soon, the child would die. Time goes on, and we see this form begin to develop. They start showing signs of the parent who carries them. Arms and legs, head and torso. Then fingers, toes, eyes, ears, mouths etc. All these begin to appear as the child remains attached to the cord. We marvel at the sight of creation by God as this small egg becomes a child. Then the day comes, and the child is ready to come out and face the world. This child does not want to leave the security of the womb. They have been fed and kept warm here, and to leave this would mean to be cut away from this cord of assurance. Yet hard as they try to stay put, a small nudge from God and the birth begins. Out pops this Glorious creation of God. They feel the cold of the room, and begin to cry. Their DESIRE is to go back into that dark, safe, warm place. Then, suddenly, a man or woman cuts away their very supply of life. They are forced to exist now without the cord. Naturally they do survive.
We are like that child in our Christian walk to become more like Him. As babes in the Lord, He attaches us to this cord of love and joy. For a few months we learn only of the Love, Grace, and Mercy of God. He does this to prepare us for the time of cutting to come. Soon we are more knowledgeable about the Word of God, and His Presence in our lives, so HE suddenly cuts the umbilical cord. It hurts! We have to learn to stand on our own, and trust in Him by Faith now. He does not move. He is still with us. But now He desires us to cling to Him by choice. He wants us to willing give all we are and have to Him, so He can sustain our lives. We fight it, reason with it, try different approaches to it, but in the end, we find the only way we came be in the still, safe, arms of Him, is to submit and rely on His love fully.
As time goes on, we hopefully learn that without God we can do nothing. As we grow He becomes more and more the sustainer of our lives. Our very breath we breath. It is only then that we can know the most wonderful love of all. A love that never changes, and is always there for us. This Jesus will never leave us. He intercedes for us to the Father. He gently directs our paths, and He will ultimately bring us with Him to the Father. However, all of this CAN NOT take place if we do not fully trust and rely on Him only for our very lives. My young 6 year old grandson once said; “Do you know when you really love God? When you really trust Him, then you really love Him.” The most wise and profound words I have ever heard, and from the mouth of a babe. So I would ask you all, who is sustaining your life? Who is in full control of every aspect of your days? Where is your umbilical cord attached? Is it hooked up to Jesus or another source?
I pray the umbilical cord of yours is connected to the source of all Faith and life, Jesus Christ, the very giver of life!
