For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 ESV)
“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7 ESV)
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14 ESV)
Today is the anniversary of the birth of Jesus. Everyone talks about Jesus but let’s take a look at Mary. Mary was a virgin. Can you imagine trying to explain to your mom how you got pregnant? Especially since you’re a virgin. Luckily she had help telling Joseph. I don’t think he believed her at first. But then an angel came to Joseph and told him how she got pregnant.
From things I have read, Mary was about 13 or so. Pretty young to be a mother. Especially to the greatest baby ever born. Oh don’t start moms, every one of you think your baby is the greatest. But did you get pregnant by immaculate conception? I didn’t think so. But Mary did it. She allowed herself to carry Jesus. Then she delivered Him in a stable. No one to witness the greatest birth ever except the animals.
I know today is a day of gifts and family get togethers, but take a few moments and wish Jesus a happy birthday.
