Attitude Is Important

by | Oct 2, 2023 | Attitude, Christian Example

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

(Proverbs 17:22 ESV)

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

(Philippians 4:8 ESV)

I stopped at McDonald’s yesterday on my way home from church for a soda. I pulled into the drive through, a few seconds before someone did in the other lane. I was waiting to give my order when I heard the other person ordering. I got a little perturbed. After all, I was there first. And then I kept waiting. Finally, a cheerful voice asked for my order. I wanted to rip the speaker off the pole. But I didn’t. I cheerfully gave her my order. When I finally got to the window, a cute, perky girl took my money and told me to have a good day. I replied the same to her, cheerfully.

It doesn’t matter how long you sit in the drive-through or how long you are on hold. Just be nice or whatever gets to you. My mom always said you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. It’s easy to cop an attitude when you are frustrated or think you have been wronged. That’s what the devil wants you to do. Think about Jesus on the cross. Did He have an attitude? Did He think He was better than everyone else? He was, but He never acted like it.

We need to stop and think before we reply angrily. Maybe that person had a bad day. Maybe others have treated that person badly. We need to be an example of kindness and not of attitude. Make someone’s day. Talk kindly to them, smile at them. You never know what someone is going through.

Have a great day, everyone. And leave the attitude behind.
