Manna From Heaven

by | Jun 20, 2023 | Calmness, Dependency, Patience

“Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance.” (Psalm 78:25 ESV)

“And all ate the same spiritual food.” (1 Corinthians 10:3 ESV)

“Egypt was glad when they departed, for dread of them had fallen upon it. He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light by night. They asked, and he brought quail and gave them bread from heaven in abundance.” (Psalm 105:38-40 ESV)

God delivered His people put of Egypt and slavery only to hear them whine and complain. God gave them a miracle, but they didn’t appreciate it. Their clothes and shoes didn’t wear out the whole time they were walking in the desert. That’s a miracle to me. Mine wear out pretty quickly.

They also whined and complained because they were tired of eating manna. The Bible describes manna as a fine, flaky substance, white like coriander seed, and tasting like wafers made with honey. God supplied this. With the instructions to pick up just what was needed for that day. But of course, some didn’t listen. They picked up more than needed, and by morning, it had gone bad.  But manna quickly got old for them. So they whined to Moses that they wanted meat. They should have stayed in Egypt where they had meat and vegetables.

If I had been Moses, I would have said, “Egypt’s that way. Hit the road.” But he didn’t. He just took it up with God.

So God sent quail. Tons and tons of quail. Well, probably not tons but a lot.

They were a whiny bunch. Moses went up the mountain to get the 10 commandments, and they convinced Aaron to build a golden calf for them to worship. Moses saw what they did and broke the stone tablets. Now, wouldn’t you think after carrying them down the mountain, he would have been a bit more careful? They had to be pretty heavy. They were made of stone.

My advice to you. Don’t be a whiny bunch. Be patient and wait on God and be satisfied with manna until God sends you quail.
