Hate Can Come Quickly

by | Jun 12, 2023 | Love, Parenting

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6 ESV)

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.” (1 John 4:7 ESV)

I was thinking about family today. I am the only girl and have 2 older brothers and 1 younger one. For the most part, we got along. I got to thinking about Joseph and his brothers. They sold him because their dad loved him more than any of them.

Parents should not have favorites, but some do.  My dad did, and it wasn’t me. I know he loved me, but he favored the oldest and youngest. And that is ok now. Although he has gone on to heaven, I have forgiven him.

But can you imagine? Being sold into slavery by the very people who were supposed to love you. But Joseph survived, and in fact, he saved his family when the famine hit. He rose from a slave and being imprisoned to second in charge under Pharaoh. It took a while, but he climbed the corporate ladder and was able to save a multitude of people because of his love for the Lord.

The important thing I take from this is that although Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery, he didn’t hate them. He saved them and their families during the famine.

Could you do that? Some people can’t forgive others for just a cross word.

But we need to be more like Joseph. Be quick to forgive others instead of holding grudges. So no matter who does you wrong. It doesn’t matter if it’s a stranger or sibling or any of your family. Forgive them quickly. Don’t hold that grudge it will only grow into hate.
