I Wait Expectantly for the Dawning Day: Morning Devotions, Part 2

by | May 12, 2023 | Anxiety, Fear, Trust

“In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” (Psalm 5:3 NRSV)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6 NRSV)

Mahatma Ghandi told folks “prayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening.” The day is meant to open and close in prayer. Can you imagine a better way to start your day? My wife begins each day with her ‘quiet time’ which is devoted to a long prayer list for those near and far, and she guards this time devotedly! Ghandi again said “A good start to a day is very important. If you are in a positive frame of mind in the morning then you are likely to have a positive day.” Scripture encourages a life of prayer. “Pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:17-19)

If you have just begun your day, or are well on into the hustle and bustle, let these words of wisdom, again from Ghandi, guide you. “Let our first act each morning be the following resolve:  I shall not fear anyone on earth. I shall fear only God.”

Prayer: You have brought me to the beginning of a new day. As I make this daily journey through life I ask for the guidance and the strength of your Spirit. Keep me in communion with Christ, keep me in communication as I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly for your answers.

Thought for the day: “The future depends on what you do today.” (Mahatma Gandhi)
