“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:3 NKJ)
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37 NKJ)
One definition Google gives for a survivor is, “A person who copes well with difficulties in their life.”
Webster defines overcomer as, “One who succeeds in dealing with or gaining control of some problem.”
So pretty much the same thing? Not really.
If you are surviving, you are coping well with the circumstances. But to overcome you have succeeded in getting whatever under control and moved on. At least that’s the “Kathy” version.
Zach Williams sings Survivor. Here is the chorus:
“Now I’m alive and born again
Rescued from the grip of sin
God your love came crashing in
And pulled me out of the fire
I’m a survivor.”
See? It doesn’t matter. If you are just surviving, God will crash in and rescue you. And once you have overcome that problem, God will walk with you to make you a victorious overcomer.
I have had bad days. Days that came crashing down around my head. Days were I don’t want to be around anyone. Those days are few and far between now. God makes sure of that. Oh, I’m not saying the devil doesn’t sneak in and try to pull a trick now and then. Because he does. It seems the more I am doing for God, the more the devil acts up. But I outwit him by laughing. He hates laughter.
So when you are just barely holding on, start laughing. Let God take hold and pull you up and make you an overcomer instead of just a survivor.
Have a great day.
