“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
(Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 ESV)
“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
(Proverbs 18:24 ESV)
I have had a lot of friends over the years. I still have some of them. A good friend is to be treasured. We need good friends for companionship.
I used to babysit for a friend. I love the little girl I watched. She was my sidekick. She went everywhere with me. That is until they moved back to Tennessee. Yesterday was her birthday. I got to talk to her for a few minutes. She sounds so grown up. I count her and her family as friends. I have a place to stay if I go visit.
While we may have many friends, there is one friend who will never leave us, never give up on us or let us down. That friend is Jesus. He loves us unconditionally and always will. He loves us no matter what we do. Can you love someone like that? I can’t. We’re all human, we get our feelings hurt and say things we really don’t mean.
But it’s like the internet, once it’s out there it’s out there forever. We may be forgiven by whoever but the fact remains, words hurt. But Jesus forgives us when we repent and then forgets it. It’s like it never happened. I wish we had that ability. This world would be a much better place.
Have a blessed day everyone.
