Youth

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

(1 Timothy 4:12 ESV)

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.”

(Psalm 119:9 ESV)

I had the opportunity last night to visit the youth group at the church. I am very impressed with our youth.

I got to thinking about the youth group of my day. Back in the dinosaur day, where every family that went to church, their kids were in youth group. My main reason was to get out of the house away from my parents for a few hours. But I had fun and learned to love Jesus. I gave my heart to Jesus as a preteen. I remember it was at church camp. You could go to camp for the week or do what my church did. They piled us all in the back of an old farm truck and drove us there for the evening meetings. We had fun in that truck. See? Dinosaur age, no seat belts required and in the bed of a truck. Fun times.

Kids now days don’t have the “hardships” we did as kids. We rode in cars without seat belts, drank water from the garden hose and rode our bikes all over town and our parents never had worry where we were. Kids can’t do that now days. And that’s sad. But they can be taught about the love of Jesus. They can be taught that Jesus loves us no matter what, but that we still do stupid things. But if you repent, change your life to where you are living for Him again, all will be forgiven.

Parents, teach your children well. Teach them about Jesus. Make sure they are saved. Kids, listen to your parents. You may think they are old and don’t know anything, but you’re wrong. We know more than you think.

Remember, we lived through no seat belts and truck bed riding. Listen to the stories of our childhood. I wish I had listened more to my grandparents stories. A rich history is lost. Don’t let it happen in your family.

Have a blessed day everyone.
