How to get rid of Headaches

by | Jan 16, 2016 | Peace, Suffering

Does anyone out there have the answer or solutions to get rid of headaches? You know those pesky intruders that alter your day?

I wish I knew. The other day I had one of them. The aching throb spread right around the right eye socket. Yuck. It took my concentration away, made me a bit irritable. And since no meds enter this chica’s body, I suffered through it.

Then it happened. God smiled at me. He sent me the most experienced, dedicated and admirable physical therapist. Who, ahem, happens to be my dear friend.

She pointed to the bed, “Lay down here.”

Not only did she do her “magic” as a therapist, but I think what truly made the headache go away completely is the sincere love that poured from her heart and hands. After the pain, there was a soothing peace–a glorious relief.

But forgive my presumptuous approach. As you read this, you might be facing not a temporary headache, But a searing heartache. Painful loneliness. Or serious illness. So how do we endure and keep going with that load pressing on us?

God, the therapist of our soul, has the answer. He first asks us to be still. To quiet our soul so He can do His majestic work in us.

With His hands of love, He’ll work for the length of time He needs, in the ways He finds best and in the stages He planned the cure.

In the meantime, we embrace the promise, the reassurance, and the hope in Romans 8:18. One translation says: “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Another says: “The pain that you’ve been feeling can’t compare to the joy that’s coming.”

Father, no matter what the suffering, all is doable, knowing that you will eventually bring healing, peace, comfort and deep joy. Your power is what not only gets rid of headaches, but gives us the strength to endure all. And resting in the expectation that glory is coming. In Jesus’ name, amen.

• What hurt are you enduring today?
• How does God’s promise ease your pain?
• How much trust will you have that He will turn all your grief into glory?
