Today’s mini-sermon is the 4th of a 9-part series that is appearing in the Saturday, Sunday and Thursday editions of the Answers2Prayer newsletters.
As we look ahead at VERY uncertain times, the Holy Spirit continually brings certain scriptural passages to my attention–passages that I KNOW are for such times as these, and that I KNOW I am to share with each of you. One such passage is found in Rev.:
“Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my people” (Rev. 18:4).
In the past 3 mini-sermons, we learned that we need to come out of Babylon. We’ve learned that Babylon represents a church, and we’ve learned that to keep ourselves pure so that we don’t commit “spiritual adultery” with “Babylon”, we cannot put anything above God’s Word.
But you still haven’t answered my question! Which church is Babylon? Why is this relevant to me??
Revelation 2 and 3 describes 7 churches, the last of which is called “Laodecia”. We are all familiar with God’s warning to this church, found in Rev. 3:15,16: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm-neither hot nor cold-I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Now, I believe it would be unfair to say that Laodecia represents a single denomination. More accurately, I believe this represents the condition of God’s church at the end of time. Think about it: which denomination has a corner on “lukewarm”ness? Doesn’t there continue to be hundreds and thousands of Christians who are too busy looking to their leaders to look to Jesus? Aren’t so many Christian churches so wrapped up in sheep-stealing, so focused on some doctrinal truths that the message of the gospel gets watered down? Are we too lukewarm to really preach the Gospel to the world? Are all of my fellow Christians also “Lukewarm”? Is Jesus calling people from all churches–including my own!–to COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE! Come out of the lukewarm ness of your churches. Look to Jesus instead! COME OUT OF HER MY PEOPLE!
In His love,
Lyn
