A Poetic response Re: Plentiful of Pennies, Pick “Em Up!
Once, a man picked up a penny.
He was so wealthy that he didn’t need any.
So, why then did he feel that he must?
Because, it said, “In God we trust!”
God, if only this were true.
Most of us don’t really care about you.
Many of us just don’t have a clue.
The truth is, there are only a few.
If a nation gets punished for telling lies,
then America is in for a nasty surprise!
Our rebellion we don’t even try to disguise.
It isn’t that we make mistakes now and then.
It’s more like we sin again and again.
You sent us prophets by word and by pen.
Yet, we throw saints right into the lion’s den.
Your holy ideas are on center stage.
Yet, when we voice them, we are met with rage.
“How dare you take away a woman’s choice!”
And we plead, “Yes, but the babies have no voice.”
They say, “How dare you prevent men from marrying men!”
And we lament, “Oh if only God’s holy standards would return again!”
They say, “How dare you mention religion in schools!”
We lament, “Yes, but without it, there just aren’t any rules.”
They demand, “God, where were you when tragedies came!”
God could say, “Excuse me. I thought you didn’t want to hear my name.
I thought you wanted me to go away.
You don’t like anyone to pray?
I did what you asked. I decided not to stay!”
God, we didn’t mean it. Please come back.
Our nation is constantly under attack.
Of troubles there is no lack.
From diseases, to gas prices, to killings, to crack.
We admit it. We sin. In fact, we invent new ways to sin. We’ve sure got the knack!
Jesus, is there any chance we can come back to you?
Or is America simply through?
