The Gift -- By Lisa Gopp

WOW! Oh thank you thank you!! I was elated. It was Christmas morning when I was 8 years old. I felt so special when I opened the present from my parents. She was beautiful. A doll with a flowing pink lace dress that when she sits, the dress forms a circle around her. At the time, I thought it was the best gift I’d ever received! Until I was 13 years old, because this Christmas I got my own phone! I even cried because I was so excited. Now that was the best gift!

Once upon a time, there was a Father, who loved His children so much, He sacrificed everything for them. WOW! I’d love to have a Father who would sacrifice everything for me. Wouldn’t you? Or should I say “who wouldn’t?”

Think of a beautifully wrapped present with a great big bow. The kind of present every kid would love to get his hands on. I search for the nametag. Could it be for me? TO: The World, it says. The world? Well, I am part of the world, so that means I can open it! The bow falls carelessly to the floor. The paper is ripped off in excitement. The box opens. What is it?

There are two things in the box. The first thing I see is a manger. It has a tag which says: Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. His will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger (Luke 2:11-12). A baby? What can a baby do for me? What is the other thing in the box? It is a cross. It also has a tag which states: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).

God my Father, who loved me so much, sacrificed his ONLY son, who died on the cross for ME. God my Father, who loved me so much, gave me the most precious gift ever – eternal life. NOW I have received the best gift, Jesus Christ. And I have a Father who sacrificed everything for me – his Son.

Have you opened your gift yet? Jesus is waiting for you to rip off your bow. Don't let another opportunity go by, without opening this gift. It will be the greatest gift you ever receive. The benefits last longer than a lifetime. Merry Christmas!!

Remember: Jesus is the Reason for the Season, tell a friend.
