If I Were You

If I were You, Lord, I'd be perfect.

I wouldn't sin. I'd have no desire to.

I wouldn't have to seek forgiveness;

I wouldn't need it, if I were You.

If I were you, I could climb a mountain;

One that reached up to the skies.

I'd drink pure water from Heaven's fountain and

I would see things through your eyes; if I were You.

My earthly body is far from sinless.

But, I know your Grace will see me through.

I wouldn't need your tender mercies

Or your forgiveness, if I were You.

But, I'm not You, Lord; I'm only human.

This flesh and bones will sin, that's true.

I'd wear a crown of pure perfection,

Of one that's sinless, if I were You.
